The Institute for e-Health Policy was established in 2008 within the HIMSS Foundation to provide educational and research opportunities for public and private sector stakeholders related to e-health policy public policy decisions. Louisiana Health Information Technology (LHIT) Resource Center
The Louisiana Health Information Technology (LHIT) Resource Center serves as the state’s regional extension center. Services include EHR vendor selection, project management, practice and workflow redesign and meaningful use achievement. The LHIT Resource Center is administered by the Louisiana Health Care Quality Forum, a private, not-for-profit organization that is dedicated to advancing evidence-based, collaborative initiatives to improve the health of Louisiana citizens. In addition, the Quality Forum is responsible for planning and implementing LaHIE, Louisiana’s health information exchange. Other organizational focus areas include quality measurement, clinical quality improvement, the medical home model and outreach/education.
M-CEITA
As Michigan's Regional Extension Center, M-CEITA supports effective health IT adoption and related workflow redesign. Through a variety of subsidized and unsubsidized personalized technical assistance programs, M-CEITA ensures that all providers in Michigan have access to unbiased, trusted support for all stages of electronic health record adoption, from selection and implementation to Meaningful Use attestation to optimizing use of health IT to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of patient care.
Wisconsin Health Information Technology Extension Center (WHITEC)
The Wisconsin Health Information Technology Extension Center (WHITEC) is the federally designated HIT Regional Extension Center for the state of Wisconsin. As a nonprofit organization and a division of MetaStar, WHITEC is tasked with providing outreach, education, and technical assistance to small and independent primary care practices wanting to implement and achieve meaningful use of electronic health records (EHRs). WHITEC's long term goal is ensuring that all health care professionals practicing in Wisconsin are able to achieve meaningful use of electronic health records and improve health care quality and efficiency in their practices.
Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC)
The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) is at the forefront of the administration’s health IT efforts and is a resource to the entire health system to support the adoption of health information technology and the promotion of nationwide health information exchange to improve health care. ONC is organizationally located within the Office of the Secretary for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
ONC is the principal Federal entity charged with coordination of nationwide efforts to implement and use the most advanced health information technology and the electronic exchange of health information. The position of National Coordinator was created in 2004, through an Executive Order, and legislatively mandated in the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH Act) of 2009.
Social Security Administration (SSA)
Social Security Administration is one of the largest disability insurers in the world. Social Security requests nearly 15 million medical records from almost 500,000 providers to make decisions on about three million disability claims annually. Since 2008, Social Security has led an initiative to enable the electronic exchange of health information to improve the disability determination process. Social Security’s healthcare partners reduce costs, streamline operations, and position themselves as leaders in the use of health information technology.
