Dakota State University offers various degrees in health information management which all integrate the latest in technology. We offer training in an America Promise grant-funded program called Health IT & Management Systems Technician​: Students gain the knowledge and skills required to install, manage, and troubleshoot Health IT systems in medical and clinical settings. Learn a broad range of medical terminology, health data requirements/standards, clinical classification and coding systems, and database security required for electronic record keeping systems. At completion of the class, they sit for the Certified Associate in Health Information and Management Systems - CAHIMS.

GSU offers a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies in Health Informatics and a Graduate Certificate in Health Informatics. Our students are being trained to fill the need for health informatics professionals who can serve as liaisons between IT professionals and clinical end-users of technology. Our students take courses in the Lewis College of Nursing and Health Professions and the Robinson College of Business. This unique structure allows for students to learn from experts in each discipline. Our curriculum prepares students with skills in software development life cycle, data analytics and project management to enter their new careers.

The HIT program at Lake-Sumter State College in accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Health Informatics and Health Information Management (CAHIIM). Our graduates are highly successful in obtaining entry level jobs in the field and promoting comparatively quickly. We have recently modified our curriculum to offer a course that helps prepare our students to take the HIMSS CAHIMS exam. We have benefitted from our academic affiliation agreement with HIMSS in many ways over the past four years. This year, we will have our students create a "Health IT Week" information sheet to send out to our HIT Advisory Committee along with the invitation to our fall meeting.
